Martha Jane Patton
Martha Jane "Janie" (Davidson) Patton, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, Friday, November 21, 2008. She was born July 31, 1921, in Springfield, the daughter of Mefford and Bessie (Gainous) Davidson.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of 58 years, Ralph W. Patton, her beloved son, Ronald S. Patton, daughter-in-Law, Dorothy M. Patton, brother Glen Davidson, and sister Betty Driscoll.
Martha was a 1940 graduate of Springfield High School. She was a former member of the Ohio Child Conservation League and a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. She retired from London Pharmacy in 1986 after 14 years of loyal service.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana (James) Stanaway of Springfield, granddaughter, Amanda (Dave) Dolfi of Dublin, Ohio, grandson, Scott (Beth) Patton of Springfield; great grandchildren: Connor and Molly Patton and Brooke and David Dolfi, god-daughter Cindy (Rick) Beam and her children, Cassie and Alex of Springfield, nephew, Dave (Jo) Driscoll of Hoschton, Georgia, niece, Norma Smith of Union City, Georgia and her life long friend, Patti Keeling, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
She was a proud homemaker and mother and will be remembered by her loved ones for her thoughtfulness and care. She delighted in spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She loved holiday traditions with her loved ones, including one she started and continued for 40 years, first with her grandchildren, then with her great grandchildren, of baking "bunny cakes" and coloring Easter eggs. To many her name was synonymous with "spiffy" as she enjoyed keeping up with the latest fashions and always looked beautiful with her pretty white hair, stylish outfits and accessories to match.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where funeral services, conducted by Pastor Wendell Hakala, will be at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
